Kim Newlin

Ms. Kim began dancing at age nine at the Dance Gallery in Lawrence, Kansas. For four years she competed and performed with the Dance Gallery Troupe throughout the US and Europe. She has studied many styles including ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, modern, hip hop, ballroom, pom, and acrobatics. Her training expanded with classes from master teachers like Joe Tremaine, Ray Leeper, Mandy Moore, Gregg Russell, Paula Abdul, Debbie Allen, Doug Caldwell, and Savion Glover through numerous conventions and master classes. She has a B.A. in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she performed with the UNC Dance Team and continued her dance training at the Ballet School of Chapel Hill. While a member of the UNC Dance Team, Kim performed during many nationally televised football and men's basketball games, as well as other sporting events and charity fundraisers.

Kim has more than 16 years of teaching, choreography, and management experience in the dance studio business. Most recently she spent many years as a teacher and studio manager at a large studio in Charlotte, NC. She has also participated in many workshops, conventions, and continued learning classes in order to keep expanding her dance training. Kim has judged both dance and cheerleading competitions and her choreography has received numerous awards.


Chandler Carpenter

Chandler started dancing at the age of 3 at the Conservatory of Dance in Syracuse, NY for 5 years and transferred to CMC Dance Company where she competed and performed with the company for 10 years. She has trained under Ballet instructor Danita Emma, as well as Marj Taylor of CMC Dance Company. While attending Oswego State in Upstate NY, she performed and choreographed for the Del Sarte Dance Club on campus. Chandler graduated from Oswego State with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Film and Photography.

She has trained in many styles of dance such as Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, Modern and Hip Hop. While knowledgeable in most styles, Tap is her strong suit.

Chandler has five years of experience teaching a wide range of ages. She is very excited to get back in the studio and be a part of The Dance Spot!



Christen Bernal

Christen Bernal began her dance training in North Carolina at the age of three which led her to graduate with a BFA in Dance Performance from East Carolina University. During her time at ECU, Christen was selected to work with artists in residency Mark Haim, Jennifer Archibald, and David Dorfman, as well as companies River North Dance Chicago and David Dorfman Dance. While living in New York City, Christen performed woks with and for Cat Cogliandro’s catastrophe! dance, Teddy Tedholm, Dionna PridGeon, Mike Esperanza, Monica Hogan Danceworks, and BalaSole Dance Company. Her choreography was presented throughout the city, at the Alvin Ailey Citigroup theatre as well as in Jersey City, at the American College Dance Festival, and at J. Chen Translate series at the Dixon Place.

Christen has been a sub teacher at Millennium Dance Complex Philadelphia and Broadway Dance Center, New York City for CTP classes. In fall 2014, she had the opportunity of working with the dancers at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island as the artist/choreographer in residence, teaching master classes and choreographing a piece on select dancers. Christen completed the gypsy project, training under Erica Sobol, Jiri Pokorny, Tilman O’Donnell, and other guest artists.While living in Los Angeles, Christen performed for choreographers Erica Sobol, Julliette Irons, and Teddy Tedholm, and presented work for Ellenore Scott’s Breaking Glass: LA.

Christen has been teaching dance for ten years and has experience with preschool through adults, and with recreational, competitive, and professional level dancers. Her choreography has been honored top overalls, choreography awards, and highest score of the day.


Liza Coccia

Liza began dancing at the age of 3 in Memphis TN. Two years later her family moved to Springfield, IL where she began taking classes at the Springfield Ballet Company, Dorothy Irvine School of Dance, and Kinner and Company Dance Studio. As a member of the Springfield Ballet Company from age 12 she performed in The Nutcracker, Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and many other Ballets. She also performed with the Springfield Muni Opera in the roles of Eliza the slave in The King and I, Louise Bigalow in Carousel, and Maggie Anderson in Brigadoon. Liza also won a Ballet Scholarship to Chicago National Association of Dance Masters.

Liza attended Oklahoma City University as a Dance Major and studied under Jo Rowen, Lyn Cramer and Liz Nelson. Her professional credits include; Branson, Mo as a dancer for The Shoji Tobuchi Show, The Kirby VanBurch Magic Show and The Dino Show, back up vocalist/dancer for The Legends In Concert, U Pick Nick TV Show on Nickelodeon, Dancer with Carnival Cruise Lines, and the cast of 42nd Street at Theater Memphis.

She is a Member of Southern Association of Dance Masters and is Chairperson of The Ballet Forum. She continues to attend Dance Conventions and take master classes from renounced teacher such as Lynn Cramer, Jeremy Plumber, Tommie Retter, David Mann, Alex Black, Sarah Jo Fazio, Justin Boccitto and more. Liza is trained in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical and Musical Theater and has 15 years of teaching experience in all of those styles, with all ages. She has choreographed pieces to perform at the Southern Association of Dance Masters and various dance competitions. She also has been a Judge for the Bravo! Dance Competition.

Liza believes it is very important to observe how each student learns and receives information and believes that taking the time to teach proper technique and fundamentals is essential in creating a successful dancer. Liza lives in Charlotte NC with her husband and 2 dogs and is excited to be a part of The Dance Spot Family.
